Semester Task: Summary
The article ‘Why a bad mistake at work can be good news’ written by Donna
Ferguson is devoted to the discussion of the problem of people’s attitude to
their mistakes in a career.
First, the author emphasizes that mistakes or failures in the career can affect
on our self-esteem and self-confidence which can make some people feel miserable.
Donna Ferguson analyzes that for most
of people it is difficult to accept their mistakes, people just refuse them, especially if they are
serious ones. We should remember that it’s
quite natural for all people make mistakes. They serve us to analyze them, make conclusions and become wiser little by little. However, after making
mistakes some people become depressed and broken.
She gives an example of a chief executive of the ‘Young Gamers &
Gamblers Education Trust’ Lee Willows who stole nineteen thousand pounds from
his hirer. Lee Willows hated himself for it and thought that he had made the
biggest mistake in his life. However, he was managed to accept his fault, he
confessed his crime and began doing great things in life, such as founding the
charity.
In addition, the author suggests that, If we learn to admit our own
mistakes, we’ll be able to be emotional stable to them and draw some conclusions.
Finally, the author concludes that our mistakes can seem to us serious
with horrible consequences, but we all should remember that making mistakes
doesn’t mean the end of the world. We should just cope with that, overcome our
obstacles and be wiser, as our mistakes don’t make us worse, vice versa, they
make us stronger.
