The advantages and disadvantages of late education.

Nowadays there are a lot of well -educated people who work in their speciality. However, there are many uneducated people who didn’t get their education in the fullness of time. What can they do: stay uneducated or start learning something new for them? Here are some advantages and disadvantages of late education.

First of all, late education has a lot of pros. The first one is that it is never late to start learning something. As the statistics on the Internet shows that the level of literacy of American people is 99%.(1)
It means that residents of the USA prefer to pay for their knowledge/ education no matter in what age in order to increase their future salary. Secondly, people who didn’t know the basic information or even essential skills, for example, reading or writing, can finally get knowledge and be smarter. If they start learning, they will not have some misunderstandings with people or they will not have to jag how to write their first and last name on documents not to make a mistake, as Donna Ladd’s mother did during all her life , until she decided to start learning grammar. In addition, late education can be a self-study as well which also has advantages, like: an opportunity to choose your own teacher or tutor, to have a flexible schedule. It’s so convenient because you can learn at any time and choose the best and highly qualified tutor for yourself who will explain everything for you properly.

However, late education has some disadvantages. First of all, you have to be disciplined and motivated enough to start learning something, which is so difficult for many people. You should understand that if you want to learn something difficult , you should have a strong will and discipline. Even when you can’t feel a progress of your long learning or when you don’t understand something difficult , you should not give up because it is just temporary difficulties that you will overcome. Another disadvantage is that if you have a self-education, you may face to some problems , like: misunderstandings , also you may not know how to start learn something, in this case a teacher or a tutor can give you not only knowledge or an explanation , but also advice how to begin your self-studying.

To sum it up, I would like to say that we underestimate uneducated people because most of these people could live their life without an essential ability to read and write! As Donna Ladd’s mother who was 63 when she decided to take some grammar classes to learn how to read and write. That seems just impossible in our developing world, but, unfortunatelly, it is true.Ladd, Donna. “My Mother Learned to Read at 63 - She Was Still the Smartest Woman I Know.” The Guardian, 20 Dec. 2018. ,https://bit.ly/2rT1elc

  1. Your summary gives a good idea about the article; there is a good balance b/w general points and specific details

Thesis st-t: too general; you should list the advantages and disadvantages in the order you are going to discuss them

What questions do you have about the discussed topic? Do you know smth about the state of this education in Russia? Do you know anybody among your parents' friends or acquaintances who received education (maybe a second higher ed degree as an adult)?
